Học bổng Mẹ La Vang

About us

Mẹ La Vang Scholarship (MLV-2011) is a Catholic charitable scholarship fund that has walked alongside disadvantaged, hard-working students since 2011. The fund seeks out, nurtures, and supports capable and excellent students from especially difficult circumstances, so that they can continue their studies and reach for their dreams.

Our history

The Mẹ La Vang Scholarship grew out of a support fund for Catholic students of the Diocese of Vinh living in Đà Nẵng. In 2010, the provinces of Central Vietnam were struck by "historic" floods. Faced with families who were already struggling and now pushed into even greater hardship, the leadership of the Catholic students of the Diocese of Vinh in Đà Nẵng — with the approval of Bishop Giuse Châu Ngọc Tri — set up a relief fund for students affected by the floods. Over three months, the fund raised nearly 60 million VND to help cover study and living costs for around 40 students.

Encouraged by Bishop Giuse after that effort, Trần Quân and a group of students from the Diocese of Vinh in Đà Nẵng began to envision a lasting scholarship for students in especially difficult circumstances.

On 16 January 2011, the scholarship was officially launched under its first name, "Chắp cánh ước mơ" (Giving Wings to Dreams), witnessed by more than 60 Catholic students of the Diocese of Vinh in Đà Nẵng. At the launch, the fund awarded 5 honorary scholarships to students with excellent academic results — setting out a clear direction: to seek out, nurture, and support capable students facing hardship so they can keep studying.

On 14 February 2011, at the Xã Đoài Bishop's House, after hearing the vision and direction of the scholarship, Bishop Phaolô Nguyễn Thái Hợp, O.P signed the open letter and funded the first 10 scholarships, with the words: "May our benefactors support this encouraging initiative."

On 16 January 2015, "Chắp cánh ước mơ" was formally renamed the Mẹ La Vang Scholarship, entrusting itself to the patronage of Our Lady of La Vang.

Our mission

The Mẹ La Vang Scholarship seeks to find, nurture, and support hard-working students in overcoming hardship so they can continue their studies and research. Choosing Our Lady of La Vang as its patron, its members pray together each day an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be — a spiritual thread binding hearts around a shared aspiration: "Education and the Future."
